Curatorial Internship


THREAD/THREAD for ART is seeking candidates for a multi-faceted, fast-paced Curatorial Internship.

THREAD and THREAD for ART were cofounded by a curator and a graphic designer driven to explore innovative and provocative combinations of art, design, and business. Passionate about helping artists and providing new platforms for disseminating art, they developed an economically self-sustaining business model that utilizes profit entities to fuel not-for-profit endeavors. The joint mission of THREAD and THREAD for ART is to provide professional opportunities for artists, to bridge the gap between artists and the arts-interested public, and to shift current perceptions about contemporary art and design.

This internship is open to students working on their undergraduate or graduate degree in either studio or art history. It is an unpaid position, consisting of 15-20 hours per week for a 6-month term and can be repeated or expanded.

The position involves:  
  • Assisting the Director of Visual Arts in planning and coordinating art programs, events, exhibitions, and publications.
  • Assembling press kits, attending to event logistics, securing sponsorship, updating artist files, and managing volunteers.
  • Providing administrative office support, including file and database management, telephone and office reception, and other office-related tasks.
  • Conducting research on artists, collections, collectors, publications, project and exhibition concepts.
  • Assisting with writing copy for press releases, announcements, art object labels, and web copy.
  • Preparation of correspondence, checklists, files, and other documents.
Candidates should have:  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to be analytical, work well with others, work independently and take initiative.
  • Proficiency with computer programs, i.e. Word, Excel, Access
  • Strong research skills.
  • Thorough, accurate, organized and efficient work habits.
  • Capacity to work under tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects.
Length of Internship:  
3 to 6 months, 12 – 16 hours/week
